Hi there lovelies! As you can see from the title I am sharing some skin care products today. These are the items that saved me from flake city during the Massachusetts winter + being in plane cabins for my job. They are affordable and can be found at any drug store!
Something’s Got to Change
When I first became a flight attendant one of the things I heard the most often was, “The first year is the hardest on you immune system. Make sure you are getting your vitamin C. We’re exposed to all kinds of germs here so don’t be surprised if you get sick more often than you have before.” (All this was BEFORE Corona-virus). But what I didn’t hear was how my skin needs would change as well.
After about a month I started commenting to my co-workers and friends from training about how dry all my skin felt from my face to my hands. I started carrying around hand lotion in my bag but that wasn’t helpful for my face. At this point winter was coming and something had to change. After Googling, checking Facebook groups, and perusing Pinterest posts I had an idea of what I was looking for but hadn’t settled on anything until I went into the store. These three items (plus focusing on getting enough water everyday) SAVED my dry skin and I hope they can help you as well! All items are linked it their heading, and are not currently affiliate links.
Note: I do have acne prone skin. You will definitely know this if you have watched my ig stories. I am still on that journey and have not found my ‘holy grail’ products for clear skin at this time. However, I did not notice a worsening of my acne when using the products I am writing about today. And of course, what works for me may not work for you, but I wanted to share what I have found!
Product 1: CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
This cleanser is perfect for me as my second step of double cleansing. It washes away the traces of make-up and doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry and tight afterwards. Plus it’s fragrance free which is a big score for the sensitive skin gang. I also like that it is in a pump so that you don’t accidentally dump wayyy too much product out. After my first step cleanser (I’ve been using Clinique’s Take the Day Off Balm for 2 years now-I’m a big fan), I wet my face with warm water, and massage one pump’s worth of product on my face for 60 seconds before rinsing.
Product 2: CeraVe Moiturizing Cream
Of course the big one: what moisturizer to use? I’m dry so clearly that’s the biggest thing I need to change. I know, I know, it looks rather intimidating. No little bottle with a pump, a big ole 16oz TUB that you just scoop out of. I was a little skeptical at first but with “developed with dermatologists” on the label and the assurance that I could always just use it on my body if it doesn’t work for my face, I bought it. And I am so glad that I did! After washing (and now toning! but I’m still new to it so won’t talk about that yet), I apply this liberally to my face and neck, making sure to get my eyelids as those were weirdly the driest/flakiest areas for me. I go ahead and get another dollop for my hands while I’m there.
Product 3: Aquaphor Lip Repair Balm
I don’t think I could do a bit on dry skin and not talk about lip balm! Listen folks, between wiping off that bright red lipstick at the end of the day and my open mouth breathing tendencies when I sleep I am no stranger to chapped lips. It is always the last step in my nightly routine to slather on some lip balm right before falling asleep. I have used Aquaphor since high school and definitely consider it a ‘holy grail’ item for me. I love that even though I buy the lip balm version it is still a multi-tasking queen. Especially dry knuckles? Dab some on. Under nose area chapped from wind, wiping and running? It’s good for that too. Everything is better by morning!
Those are my three drug store products for dry skin! Have you tried any of these out? Let me know what you thought of them!
Thank you so much for reading! Xoxo,
