Not So Basic Black // The Work Wear Edit

“What will I wear today?” is a daily question I ask myself. And while it is SO FUN to put together looks for dinners, concerts, and brunches, most of my days are centered around work. This means work appropriate attire is a must for the majority of my wardrobe. At Dillard’s our dress code is guided by the principal of being “Professional and Fashion Forward”.  This black and white look fits the that expression perfectly. Black certainly reigns as the color of professionalism, while my leopard print footwear and tailored pants give a fresh feel to the look.

The biggest piece of advice I can give about work wear is having the right fit. When your clothes fit well, they automatically look elevated. These pants were an awesome length and hip-fit off the rack, but needed some tailoring in the waist. It took me a few weeks to get it to the tailor’s and now I wonder what took me so long! They fit absolutely perfect now and I wear them once (okay, probably twice) a week. I love the slimmer silhouette. It feels so chic and modern. And to all you fab gals job hunting, black on black is the perfect interview attire.

Let’s not forget the shoes! A little pop of print or color is a great way to incorporate your personality into an outfit without being overpowering. These leopard print beauties are from Sam Edelman. If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen my stories when I went out to buy these at the last minute one Sunday.

And of course, the ever important work bag. I found this one during a surprise sale from Kate Spade. I vigorously checked the measurements to make sure my 13″ laptop would fit. And it does! A classic black leather bag will always be in style, so it is worth the investment to me.

I had SO much fun getting this together for the blog. I worked with the amazing Abbie Mae of Abbie Mae Photography and hope to again soon! (Linked the website and the Instagram so you HAVE to check it out) Would y’all like a post about my first photoshoot experience?? I asked some of the “dumb questions” so you don’t have to!

Thanks so much for reading! I hope this has inspired you in your work wear!

Stay Fab! Xoxo,

Emily
