Back in 2019 I bought 10 swimsuits from SHEIN and reviewed them. It was one of my most popular posts! Because of the sheer volume of swimsuits I owned and the fact that not much was happening in the summer of 2020, I did not buy any new swimwear last year. However, I have come to some new realizations about what I do and don’t like in a swimsuit and decided this year was a great year to revamp my collection. While several items are from SHEIN, I also purchased suits from Cupshe, Dippin’ Daisys, and Target!
I discovered from my last round of swimsuit shopping that while I do like tops that don’t have to be tied, I detest low-rise bottoms. You will certainly see a theme amongst the suits I purchased.
Before we get started, my measurements are:
- Bust: 30in/76.2cm (30/32B is my bra size)
- Waist: 25in/63.5cm
- Hips: 35.5in/90.17
- Height: 5’3”/160cm
Silver Disco
Brand: Dippin’ Daisys
Size Ordered: Small in both, Matador Top/Ultra Bottoms
Top: Tank Straps, Pullover Head
Bottoms: High-Mid Rise, Moderate Coverage
Thoughts: I found this brand through hearing about it on a podcast. I liked the look of their suits and wanted to give them a try. While the regular priced ones weren’t terrible I wanted to find a sale suit before committing. This sparkling number was $9.00 for the top and $13.00 for the bottoms making the whole purchase after shipping and taxes under $30! So yeah, I really recommend checking their sale section. Honestly, I really like the suit and would probably buy a full price set next year if they have a design I really like. A couple things that aren’t my absolute favorite: there is no padding in the top (even though they can be a pain, I like the little bit of shape it gives) and the straps on the top are a little too long on me personally. But then again, I’m on the short side.
Retro Vibes
Brand: Cupshe
Size Ordered: Small
Top: Pullover Head, Bandeau with Detachable Straps
Bottoms: High Waisted, Full-Moderate Coverage
Thoughts: Cupshe is similar to SHEIN, with the majority of their bikinis being sold as sets, and a more budget friendly price tag. I believe I saw this suit in an ad somewhere in my social media and fell in love with the vintage pattern and style. It fits me really well and that’s the most you can ask for from a swimsuit, really. My one complaint is not so much with this suit specifically but more so with smocked tops over all, I do think they can look weird on me sometimes. Like after I move a bit it looks like I have one long boob that goes all the way across the front of my chest, lol. Oh well, still cute though.
Cobalt Beauty
Brand: SHEIN
Size Ordered: Small
Top: Tank Straps, Back Clasp
Bottoms: High-Mid Rise, Full Coverage
Thoughts: While I’m blonde for now, I know I want to go back to being a redhead one day. This deep blue will look great with both hair colors. This swimsuit is also family vacay approved and will stay put when faced with waves.
Lovely Lavender
Brand: SHEIN
Size Ordered: Small
Top: Tank Straps, Back Clasp
Bottoms: High-Mid Rise, Full Coverage
Thoughts: I’ve really been loving lavender lately (and for a while) so I knew I had to get a bathing suit in one of my favorite colors. I’m positive they used the same pattern for this suit and the cobalt one above so it has all the same fit notes. One thing to be wary of; the texture of the fabric here is cute but that, plus salt water, made it so I rubbed strawberries on the inside of my upper arms.
Color Blocking
Brand: SHEIN
Size Ordered: Small
Top: Spaghetti Straps, Pullover Head
Bottoms: High-Mid Rise, Full Coverage
Thoughts: Such fun colors of lime green and aqua! I even matched a life guard hut in Miami. Good fit with adjustable straps, which is always helpful. This swimsuit also has some texture to it, but not so much that I rubbed strawberries on my arms.
Candy Stripes
Brand: SHEIN
Size Ordered: Small
Top: Tank Straps, Pullover Head
Bottoms: Full-Moderate Coverage, High-Mid Rise
Thoughts: Vibrant colors here too, along with my favorite fit, as I’m sure you’re starting to pick up on. Here’s where I started to see the price-quality ratio get closer. All the swimsuits from SHEIN above are surprisingly pretty thick fabrics and good construction. This one unfortunately is not the same. It is still cute, and I’m still going to wear it, but the fabric is a bit thinner and the construction isn’t the same.
Muted Desert Stripes
Brand: SHEIN
Size Ordered: Small
Top: Tank Straps, Pullover Head
Bottoms: Full-Moderate Coverage, High-Mid Rise
Thoughts: Literally exactly the same as the candy striped one above. Same cut and fabric type, just different colors. I believe you can tell the fabric difference even through the pictures because of how it wrinkles.
Hot Pink + Ruffles
Brand: SHEIN
Size Ordered: Small
Top: Tank Straps, V-Neck, Pullover Head
Bottoms: High-Mid Rise, High Leg, Cheeky Coverage
Thoughts: Similar to the two above, we have another suit with thin fabric. The color is everything I could want, but the ruffle doesn’t like to stay put (rolls up) and the darting on the bust looks weird. Still going to wear it though.
Cutout One Piece
Brand: Target
Size Ordered: Small
Top: Tank Straps, Backless
Bottoms: High Leg, Cheeky Coverage
Thoughts: I saw Sarah on Sassy Red Lipstick wearing this and I knew I had to have it. A quick search on the Target app and I discovered that it was sold out online (so sorry!), but there was still one available at a Target in Fort Worth. I placed a pickup order from the app and the next day drove the 45 minutes over there and the swimsuit was mine! The colors are so fun and the fit is great. Just have to make sure I get all my sunscreen on!
Final Thougts
There we have my 9 new swimsuits for the summer. I hope this was helpful for any of you that were considering ordering from SHEIN, were looking for a new brand to check out (Dippin’ Daisys), or needed a good old reminder to check Target. As always, my top tip for shopping SHEIN and similar sites, like Cupshe, is to read reviews and order a few things at once to increase the likelihood that something will work out for you.
Where have you been buying swim lately? And what do you look for in a swimsuit?
Thank you so much for reading, it really means a lot to me. Until next time, stay fab! Xoxo,
