Inspiration from an Unlikely Source

Fashion has been influenced by many things throughout history. Something in particular that has always seemed to have a big impact on the fashion industry has been art. There is no better example of this than Yves Saint Laurent’s Mondrian dress in 1965. Not to elevate myself to St. Laurent’s status, but in today’s post I have applied the same idea…

Two years ago when I moved into my current apartment I made up my mind to make my room a pretty place that I would love. Thus I decided to start a gallery wall. Here it is today:

One of the first pieces I got for my wall was this canvas from TJMaxx (aka the best place ever).

I love everything about this canvas, the cool blue that contrasts with my usual love of pink, the bits of inspiring quotes, but most of all the outfit. So casual, yet so chic. The relaxedness of the denim shorts against the sophistication of the blazer pulled together with a slouchy button down shirt. As I was lying in bed before getting up one morning, admiring my wall as I do, it dawned on me… I have all the pieces to recreate that exact outfit! The outfit that I had been staring at for nearly two years I could bring to life.

I adore high waisted shorts and seem to have the best luck finding them at GAP. They fit true to size and come in lots of different styles and washes. My button down comes from H&M that I bought in New York when I was just 16. What a good purchase that was! Finally, the blazer was a Christmas gift this past year from my wonderful parents who know my love of blazers. (And do a great job of following linked pins on a board dedicated to my Christmas wish list #lifehack).

I of course could take some liberty in my shoe choice and I am thrilled to incorporate my newest babies, the Irene sandal from Steve Madden. These are by no means a new shoe, but are new to me. After wanting, thinking, and dreaming about these shoes for nearly EIGHT months, I figured it was finally time to bring them home. They are so chic and practical; I just know I will be wearing them all summer.

I accessorized fairly simply, something I tend to do. With a new pair of sunnies I got on sale from Aldo, my trusty watch from Charming Charlie’s, and my beloved Kate Spade bag that again, was a Christmas gift, this look really came together.

I am so excited how this outfit turned out, it’s perfect for running around town, or catching up with a friend over a delightful lunch out!
