As a flight attendant, I spend a lot of time on my feet. Maybe you’ve found this post because you are coming to the profession for the first time, or maybe you have been a flight attendant for a while and looking for new kicks. Here is a non-exhaustive list of what I find to be the best shoes for flight attendants.
An important thing to note is even with the best heels, it is a good idea to have flat(er) ‘inflights’. These are the shoes you will wear once you get on board the plane. I will be sharing ‘terminal shoes’ or what I refer to simply as ‘heels’ as well as ‘inflights’.

Sofft Miranda Pump: $90
These are my absolute favorite shoes I have found to wear at work. Most of the time I do not change into inflights when I wear these. They have a cushioned footbed, genuine leather build, shorter and stouter heel, and a Mary Jane strap across the foot. The Mary Jane strap is my favorite feature as it keeps my foot securely in the shoe. An Uber driver once almost witnessed me falling down the stairs in front of my crash pad in different shoes than these with no Mary Jane strap and it slipped off my foot. It took a long time for me to find quality Mary Janes that were not homely looking and these check all the boxes for me. Click photo above to shop!
Clarks Ambyr Joy Pump: $60-$70
I have a Clarks pair very similar to these. I love the look of them and they are perfect for shorter duty days or when paired with inflights. The taller slender heel earns points for looks but they don’t keep you as stable when rushing between flights in the airport, or during turbulence if you decide to wear them in air. These are also the shoes I stepped out of and nearly fell down the stairs. At this point you may be asking “Emily, why do you still have them and are recommending them?” Simple, different people like different things, and if you like a streamlined classic look, this is the one to go for. They are incredibly well made with a cushioned footbed and genuine leather construction. I will get to why I still have them (aside from looks) later. Click photo above to shop!
Amazon Mary-Janes: $39
Let me be clear, these are a cute, budget friendly option. I do not really recommend these for long time use. Often times, being a newbie flight attendant does not make a ton of money, but you do want to be compliant with your uniform standards, comfortable as possible, and still cute. I bought these Mary Janes from Amazon before I got the Sofft brand ones above. They are a great option for under $50. With a block heel these shoes are more secure than the Clarks pumps and the strap across your foot will keep you from slipping out of the shoe. They are constructed with man made materials and as such stay stiff and don’t conform to your feet like real leather does. I also found them to have a hard footbed but that could be overcome with the right insert. Click photo above to shop!
Lucky Brand Emmie Ballet Flat: $60
I was very lucky (haha) to have my grandma purchase these for me when I was just starting out as a flight attendant. You do not need to buy these specifically, any basic ballet flat will do. These are my current inflights. I like them a lot because they do not take up a lot of room in my suitcase. They can easily squish flat and be placed in one of the outside pockets of my suitcase for quick access. I am on the hunt for some more supportive inflight shoes and you can bet I will update this post when I find them. Click photo above to shop!
More tips on finding the best shoes for flight attendants
- It’s good to know yourself and what you can handle. You may have noticed all of the shoes I recommended here are rounded toe. I personally cannot work a full day in pointed toe shoes. If you can, I am jealous of you because I love that look.
- For your first pair of flight attendant shoes, I highly recommend going and trying some on in person. You want to really be able to get a feel for what you like and don’t like, then you can order online.
- After buying your second pair of shoes (because it will happen), do NOT get rid of your first pair unless they are completely trashed. Different floor types, concrete, asphalt, escalators, and moving sidewalks are rough on shoes. I am currently wearing my Clarks pumps instead of my Sofft Mirandas. One of the heel caps came off of my Mirandas and I have not gotten around to getting them fixed yet. So yeah, always keep a backup pair of shoes when you can.
